It’s Crab Time!
It’s crab time! My Astoria crab fishing charters target Dungeness crab in the Columbia River and along the Oregon Coast. We limit out on every trip – 12 crabs per person, guaranteed (unless we get robbed by pirates, or some other incredibly unlikely event happens, in which case we’ll prorate the trip price).
We’ll eviscerate, cook, and serve the crab fresh out of the steamer, straight to your plate. I think you’ll absolutely love it.
Oregon Coast crabbing starts with dropping baited pots in productive water near the river mouth. We normally drop pots the day prior, which makes our time on the water short and sweet. If you’re looking for a sport, this isn’t it. Its more of a harvest! A long soak time yields bigger crab. The pots I use are designed to let smaller crab out and trap bigger crab, so the longer they soak, the more crab crawl in and more big crab get stuck. Also, the weather during the majority of crab season is not great, so hanging out a long time on the boat is not ideal. After we pull the crab pots and sort out the biggest ones to take back to the dock, eviscerate (get rid of the guts, gills and shells) and then up to our house for cooking and feasting, You’re welcome to eat all of the crab from our limits (Julie and I get 24 also) and still take your 12.
Dungeness crab season on the Oregon Coast runs is best in the fall and winter months {months that end in “R”).
