Astoria bottom fishing charters are known for fast action and quick limits. On these Pacific Ocean fishing trips we regularly catch rockfish (sea bass/black rock cod), lingcod, cabezon, and kelp greenling – a variety of delicious fish that thrive near the rocky bottoms of the Pacific Ocean. We limit out a high percentage of the time, and it usually doesn’t take long.

Depending on conditions, we target two main areas. Most often, we fish near the South Jetty, right where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. This spot offers larger-than-average sea bass, excellent lingcod and cabezon fishing, and a short ride from the river mouth – more time fishing, less time getting there.

When ocean conditions are especially favorable, we may head south to the Tillamook Head area. This spot sees very little fishing pressure due to its distance from any marina, which often means lights-out, fast-paced action – though it’s about 20 miles from the river mouth, roughly an hour each way from Hammond Marina on a calm day.

Bottom fishing trips run year-round and are typically best during smaller tides, calm ocean conditions, and lighter fishing pressure. Winter and spring bring less predictable weather, but also quieter days on the water.
