The Oregon coasts beautiful pacific ocean will open up for Salmon
fishing on May 31st. We are expecting a record setting season for
ocean salmon this year with a forecast of 964,100 Coho returning to
the Columbia river this fall. That’s amazingly high, compared to
316,900 returned in 2013. The fall Chinook salmon forecast is even
better! Biologists are predicting 1.6 million fall Chinook salmon to
return to the Columbia river in 2014. This would be the largest
return of Salmon in the Columbia river since counting began at
Bottom fishing is always open and one of the most fun and active
fisheries around. Ling cod, sea bass and a variety of other tasty
fish are available and spring is the best time of year to fish them.
Bottom fishing trips are normally shorter in duration and depend
upon ocean conditions being good. The limit is 7 fish per person
and 2 Ling cod, which do not count toward the 7.
Buoy 10 (Columbia River fall salmon) fishing opens August 1st.
Best dates are middle of August through labor day, although, many
times everyone leaves after labor day and fishing just continues to
improve. We often have fantastic fishing until mid October in the
river. Combined forecast of Chinook and Coho salmon is 2.5
million fish into the Columbia system this year. This year is shaping
up to be the best salmon fishing in decades.
Now, lets go fishing!!
